Thomas M. Johnston
Attorney Thomas M. Johnston has a wealth of experience working in both large and small firms in the Twin Cities and surrounding areas. He has focused his career in the areas of estate planning, elder law, probate and trust administration, charitable giving, and federal and state taxation. He also has considerable experience in tax and business planning for closely-held businesses and real estate. Tom is licensed to practice law in Minnesota, and also has been admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota and the United States Tax Court.
Tom graduated from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1994 in the top 5% of his class. Prior to attending law school, Tom received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics, summa cum laude, from the University of St. Thomas in 1990. While attending St. Thomas, he also spent a year abroad studying Economics at the prestigious London School of Economics & Political Science.
Tom has served as an adjunct professor of law at William Mitchell College of Law, where he helped establish the tax clinic program and taught a graduate level course in tax-exempt organizations. He participates in the Probate and Trust Law and Elder Law.
Outside of the office, Tom spends time with his wife and his four daughters, three of whom were adopted from Colombia. Tom currently resides in Waconia, Minnesota and is a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
